《我們的荊軻》是以現代人的視角重新審視、解讀荊軻刺秦王的故事。《霸王別姬》同樣是歷史故事新說，莫言在該劇中將刻畫人物的理念運用至極致，向讀者展示出一個為愛而生為愛而死的虞姬。《鍋爐工的妻子》是一部現實題材的劇本，也是三部劇中唯一還沒有和觀眾見面的，講述了一個女知青在社會變遷中的多舛命運。
