天台山，乃智者幽棲行道之地，以處命人也。

雖吾祖生緣、得道、垂化、示寂不在此山，蓋為符定光懸記，兼展平生志願，故事載《別傳》。

此山上應三台，故名天台，舊亦名南嶽，俗諺亦稱天梯，如《輔行》一十七 釋。

教者，效也，亦詮理化物為義也。

教有化儀、化法，只言四教者，通名立題，義攝兩種。

別文云八教，合二四以標之耳。

儀，式也。
