《取火者的逮捕》是作者在1933年到1934年之间写成的。题材是描写“神”的统治的横暴与歌颂“人”的最后胜利。虽然写的是古代的希腊神话，说的却是当时当地的事。作者在本书的《新序》中说：“我写这部东西的当儿，是从肃杀的秋天，经过狂风虎虎的冬天，到繁花怒放的春天的。满腔的悲愤，一肚子的牢骚。却也就在这最黑漆漆的夜里看到了将要到来的黎明时的红色曙光”。
郑振铎，我国现代杰出的爱国主义者和社会生活家，又是著名作家、学者、文学评论家、文学史家、翻译家、艺术史家，也是国内外闻名的收藏家，训诂家。主要著作有：短篇小说集《家庭的故事》、《桂公塘》，散文集《山中杂记》，专著《文学史纲》、《中国文学论集》等。
