"二十世紀三十年代初，美國《密勒士評選》曾評出當時中國文壇*知名度的五位作家，鬱達夫位列其中。他是一位優秀的作家，也是一位優秀的出版家，並且與魯迅、郭沫若、茅盾等一同在“五四”新文學運動中發揮了積極作用，為中國現代文學和出版事業的發展都做出了巨大貢獻。
鬱達夫在文學創作上主張“文學作品，都是作家的自敘傳”，因此在小說和散文中毫不掩飾的勾勒出個人生活的軌跡，也深深植入了作者的思想感情、個性和人生際遇。"
鬱達夫，原名鬱文，字達夫，浙江富陽人，文學家、出版家、革命志士，少時家貧，依靠官費求學，十七歲隨長兄赴日，求學期間掌握多國外語。1914年7月，入東京第一高等學校預科後開始嘗試小說創作，1921年6月，與郭沫若、成仿吾、張資平等人成立新文學團體創造社。
