董浩雲(1912－1982)，浙江定海人。年僅十六歲即投身航運事業，他曾先後創辦中國航運公司、金山輪船公司、復興航業公司及東方海外貨櫃客輪橫公司，開創中國遠洋貨輪及渡大西洋、太平洋之先河。五十年代後董氏開始以香港為中心，並積極向海外發展，分支機構遍佈世界各重要商埠碼頭。與此同時，董氏還不斷在海外購買和建造新型巨輪，致力拓展全球航運業務，終於建立起一個擁有各類巨輪百多艘、載重量超過1,100萬噸的航運王國，成為舉世聞名的國際船王。本書作者數年前負責編注董浩雲上百萬字的日記，在這基礎上，再結合董氏後人提供的董浩雲生前保存的大量文件資料，以及各地檔案館保存甚董氏有關的資料，從而撰寫出一本全面而資料翔實的董浩雲傳記。
