本书写她执教过的马来西亚半岛南方、写路过的马六甲古城、写修读博士的所在地中国，等等。相对于家乡槟城，这些辗转流连过的地方，都是远方。

邱苑妮，马来西亚槟城写作人、绘画人及中国南京大学现当代文学博士。曾任职南方学院中文系讲师兼亚洲文艺复兴与跨文化书院研究员等。目前旅居中国上海并在上海复旦大学中国古代文学研究中心（古籍所）攻读第二个博士学位。著有散文集《在流牧地》、文学评论集《美丽与哀愁，凝眸与诀别——沈从文小说自然象征意蕴研究》、《诗性的皈依——沈从文自然意识研究》等。
