梓人是香港一名少人提及的傑出小說作家，尤其精於短篇。他是和崑南、盧因、蔡炎培等，都是從一九五〇年代成長的文藝青年。他的作品散見刊於《中學生》、《文藝季》、《文壇》、《文藝沙龍》、《好望角》等文藝刊物。而發表在《好望角》第二期的《長廊的短調》後來更多次入選各香港小說選集，儼然其著名的作品。是次整理出版的作品，除了有早期的作品，更有投稿海外刊物《蕉風》的小說，以及後來寫於《文壇》、《香港文學》的篇章，讓讀者一次過見證作者各個創作階段的風格轉變。
