花腹鯖、白腹鯖及真鰺等鯖鰺魚類為臺灣東北部海域重要漁獲物種，每年漁獲量穩定維持約6萬至7萬噸，占了沿近海總量近4成，以富含營養卻平價的「國民魚」姿態，滋養了一代又一代的臺灣人。為確保鯖鰺資源永續利用，漁業署在2013年發布「鯖鰺漁業管理辦法」，逐步就總船數、禁漁區、禁漁期等項目訂定規範，在漁民的共識下，於2023年底再次修正法規，將年度總容許漁獲量與個別漁船漁獲配額也納入，並在2024年上路實施。
